Innocence (2010)
One of my favorite photographic challenges is children. It seems they are forever doing things that are “photo worthy,” but it’s so hard to capture those things in a still image, since they rarely cooperate for a photo shoot. I think it’s the images that show their innocence, wonder, and amazement I find most intriguing.

I was asked to shoot this couple’s engagement photos for their wedding announcement.

Truck Spill – Digital (2005) top
One of my favorite things to do with a camera is go on a “walkabout” and just take pictures of whatever catches my eye. This is one such photo, taken the morning after a rain.

Optimism – Film (2005) top
One of my most ardent philosophies of life: It’s always better to look up.

Piano Hands – Film (2005) top
This is a self-portrait … my hands playing my great-grandmother’s piano.

Bubbles – Film (2004) top
Bubbles are great entertainment for all ages. This photo shoot was a lot of fun. I ended up lying on the ground and shooting upward.

Beauty in a Dumpster – Film (2004) top
One of my favorite things to do with a camera is go on a “walkabout” and just take pictures of whatever catches my eye. This was shot looking through the area of a dumpster that the garbage truck uses to lift it off the ground. The shapes and complementary color scheme make something beautiful out of something ordinary (and normally ugly).

Bare Essentials – Film (2004) top
No color, no faces … just the bare essentials.

Daddy’s Hands – Film (2004) top
My own father’s hands. The hands of a working man, but also the hands that took care of me when I was sick and held me when I cried.

Timeless – Film (2004) top
My favorite part of this image is that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what era it was taken. Was it really taken in 2004? Or perhaps the 1950s?
